Yoga & Hike in the autumn excites all the senses: the colors of the plants, the clear air and the sweetness of the ripe berries. The play of color shows the strong energy of nature before the winter silence begins.
The autumn excites all the senses: the colors of the plants, the clear air and the sweetness of the ripe berries. The play of color shows the strong energy of nature before the winter silence begins.
Slowly calmness is coming: the migratory birds and most of the tourists now leave Iceland. But life here once again awakens to full power: the berries and mushrooms are ripe, the colors are shining and horses and sheep are brought back from the mountains to the valleys in huge round-ups. A wonderful time to have an intensive insight to Iceland´s life.
Sunday: Individual arrival in Akureyri
Depending on your arrival time, you can relax in the accomodation or even enjoy a first visit to the swimming pool of Akureyri, with its three different "heitir pottur" (= hot pots) and a steam bath. In the evening we invite you to take a short city tour to show you to your home for the next week. As an introduction to our time together we welcome you with a dinner in northern Iceland.
Monday: Yoga in the middle of the fjord
We start the morning with a yoga sequence 1,5 hours indoor. In the early afternoon we drive along the west coast of the Eyjafjörður to the north before we reach the Sævar ferry. This ferry takes us to the small island Hrísey which is located in the fjord. A short walk takes us to a magnificent viewing point. This place is considered as one of the 7 powerplaces in Iceland: the perfect place to rest and enjoy a yoga session. Then we walk across the island - and we have a good chance to feast on blueberries. Back in town, the pool is waiting for us and opens up fantastic views. For dinner we stay in Hrísey - who likes can enjoy the local fish from the sea. Hike: 2hours
Tuesday: In Mývatn - yoga on hot ground
We start the morning with a yoga sequence 1,5 hours indoor. At lunch we start our journey to one of the most exciting areas of Iceland: Lake Mývatn. Here we experience the fantastic world within an active volcanic area with its hot springs, bubbling mud pools and strong colors. Our first stop is at Goðafoss, waterfall of the Gods. On the black sand beach right at the waterfall we will have a scenic yoga session. After another 30 min drive we reach Mývatn. We explore the diverse landscapes on different short hikes: the pseudo craters of Skútustaðir, the mystical lava towers of Dimmuborgir, the continental divide, and the colorful world of active volcanism in the Krafla area and on Námaskarð.
Afterwards it is time to relax and enjoy the beautiful warm waters of the Nature Baths, the 'Blue Lagoon' of the North. We have dinner in a cafe at the lake with products directly from the area. Even at this time of the year we can be lucky to experience the Northern Lights on our drive back home to Akureyri. Hike: 1 hour or a good 2hours according your like
Wednesday: Tröllaskagi - In the mountains of the trolls
We start the morning with a yoga sequence 1,5 hours indoor. At lunch we drive north to the peninsula of the trolls. Here we turn into one of the most beautiful valleys in the North: the Svarfaðadalur. We drive far into the world of mountains until we reach the old farm Skeið shortly before the end of the valley. This time of year the valley is mostly wrapped in the splendor of autumn colors. Myriam awaits us already for a cozy lunch time with wonderful Icelandic lamb or vegetarian option.
Then we walk through the idyllic valley up to a small mountain lake. Surrounded by the mountains we have a yoga session to feel the calmness of this remote area and its stunning beauty. Either you use the time to rest here, or participate in another yoga session. Then we turn back to the farm. Hike: 2,5hours
Thursday: Gorgeous view of the fjord
We start the morning with a yoga sequence 1,5hours indoor. Then there is a lunch break at the apartment. After that we go for an inspired hike over the cliffs of Akureyri from where we enjoy stunning views over the fjord. On a scenic spot of this tour we do another yoga sequence. Hike: 2 to 3 hours.
Friday: Yoga at rushing waterfalls
We start the morning with a yoga sequence 1,5 hours indoor. Then we hike to a charming little jewel in the north: on undiscovered paths we follow the waters of river Myrkar, surrounded by the mountains of the Hörgárdalur - at this time carrying its autumn dress. In countless cascades, the Myrkar water is flowing from the mountains to the sea and we gonna have our lunch break at a magnificent waterfall. This afternoon is kind of meditative afternoon in order to integrate all the experiences of the week. Back in Akureyri people can enjoy the geothermal pool or strawl around in charming Akureyri before the journey home starts for you in the late afternoon. Please do not plan your return trip before for 4pm. We take you back to the bus or flight. Hike: 1 hour or more at your like.
