Riding and Hiking

Description

Enjoy an active day in great environment! The program starts at our farm Vellir with a riding tour through the amazing Icelandic nature. We ride for 1.5 to 2 hours along meadows and lava fields in the charming countryside, followed by a light lunch at Hótel Eldhestar. After lunch we drive about 5 minutes to the green hills on foot of the volcano Hengill, just above the village Hveragerði, where we start hiking up into the magnificent geothermal valley of Reykjadalur. On our way we will see the beautiful waterfall Djúpagilsfoss and many hot springs. We also have the opportunity to take a relaxing bath in a warm river, an unforgettable experience! On our way down, we can enjoy a spectacular panorama over volcanic mountains, the picturesque village Hveragerði and all the way down to the coastline, where we might even see the Westman Islands, weather permitting. The tour ends with coffee and cake at Eldhestar riding center.

Included: 1,5-2 hours on horseback, light lunch (soup, bread etc.), guided hiking tour, coffee and home baked cake.
The hike is about 2,5 hours (ca. 5 km), the first 15 minutes are quite steep but otherwise it is an easy hike. Please note that the hike can get more demanding in winter. Good hiking boots recommended all year round. Bring a swimsuit and a towel.
Hotel pick-up in Reykjavik every day between 8:00 and 8:30. Return to Reykjavík ca. 17:15.

This tour is available all year round, weather permitting, starting at our farm at 9:00.
