If you see people queuing in front of an ice cream shop, it is usually this ice cream shop. Ísbúð Vesturbæjar, or locally known as Vesturbæjarís, has been the most popular place to go out for an ice cream for years now in Reykjavík. It has two different types of ice creams; milk base (old-fashioned) or cream based. It became famous for its' old fashioned ice cream, using milk instead of cream and now you can have the milk ice cream with strawberry, vanilla and chocolate flavors. Icelanders go crazy for ice cream and usually when they want to treat themselves they get "Bragðarefur", which is where you pick what kind of soft ice cream you would like and then x3 ingredients to put in, usually candy and/or fruit. Then it's all mixed together into a candy ice cream goodness that will blow your mind! You can get "bragðarefur" in most ice cream stores but the one in Vesturbæjarís is amazing, because of the milk ice cream. I recommend getting; strawberry ice cream with daim, strawberries and a mars bar! Yum!

This was once the most popular place to go for the locals for many years. When I was a kid there was always a queue to go in, even in snow storms! This ice cream shop is a cornerstone when it comes to ice cream shops in Reykjavík. There you can an incredibly creamy ice cream, both soft ice, and gelatos. They also usually have different ice cream flavors every week! One of my favorites has been a coffee ice cream they had last summer! There you can also sit and enjoy your ice cream and is very kid friendly.

Don't want soft ice? Valdís is the perfect place for a great and different gelato! Valdís has been the most popular ice cream shops in Reykjavík for the past years. On a hot sunny day, you will see people queue for just one scoop of ice cream for an hour! But it's worth the wait. They have a great variety of flavors, from a normal chocolate ice cream to a tiramisu ice cream or an ice cream made with real blueberries. It is guaranteed to have something for everyone!
